Act 1 – Manila, Philippines, September 18, 2010, the Banana Family Having Breakfast: At the table is Papa Banana, Mama Banana, Junior Banana and Uncle Banana

Papa Banana: Hoy, Junior eat slowly. Enjoy your food.

Mama Banana: OO nga (Yes truly)

Papa Banana: Aber, Junior what are you going today remember you have to do your assignment.

Junior Banana: Nope 🙂

Papa Banana: What?

Junior Banana: The Education Secretary said so

Papa Banana: And where did you find that out?

Junior Banana: The Internet and shows Dad link on the Net DepEd order: No more homework on weekends

Mama Banana: Where did you get the computer? How many times have I told you not to bring the computer while we are having breakfast.

Uncle Banana: OK lang yan (while accessing his mobile). Somebody wrote a post about it na look (shows Homework) its by Marocharim.

Papa Banana: Who is Marocharim ?

Junior Banana: (reading from the netbook) sabi ni DepEd, “No homework/assignments shall be given during weekends for pupils to enjoy their childhood and spend quality time with their parents without being burdened by the thought of doing lots of homework”

Uncle Banana: A blogger

Papa Banana: ah blogger

Uncle Banana: Well mahaba buhok at palaging nakasimangot mukhang … Intellectual.( He has long hair and frowns a lot … he looks like an intellectual)

Junior Banana: (reading from the netbook) oh ito pa sabi ni Dep Ed (This is what Dep Ed said) “Common homework/assignments may include a period of reading to be done and writing to be completed, problems to be solved and projects to be worked on, among others. The purpose of which is for pupils to increase their knowledge and improve their abilities and skills.”

Mama Banana: Wow ang galing ng anak ko. Pero bawal na talaga computer sa dinning room. Or else kurutin kita. ( Wow my son is a boy wonder. But remember you are not allowed to bring the computer inside the dinning room or I will pinch you)

Papa Banana: So that is it?

Uncle Banana: Yes

Junior Banana: Yay

Mama Banana: But what will baby do?

Papa Banana: Well he can help clean the house. Magbunot ng sahig (Polish the floor with a coconut husk)

Uncle Banana: He can help me clean the bathroom

Papa Banana: He can go with you later when you go shopping, to the market and to your meeting with your friends. They like Junior, you know they liek to pinch his cheeks and then …

Junior Banana: I will just do my assignment or read.

Junior Banana leaves to go to his room

Uncle Banana: You did not tell him that the memorandum is for Public School he goes to a Private School

Papa Banana: Shhhhhhhhhh

Mama Banana: tee hee
