Killing the Hyena to Scare the Lion
Have you read the posts about Alex Vergara being sued for an article he wrote entitled Architectonic Debate? According to Bianca’s post lifestyle journalism and Jayvee’s post Why is Alex Vergara being crucified? And why aren’t lifestyle journalists taken seriously? they see no grounds for libel. And after reading the article. I would agree. So why?
(i) It was Voltaire (I think ) who once said one kills the Hyena to scare the Lion. So was a not subtle message being sent to other side?
(ii) Could it be tactic to damage control? In this context hitting the message (the article as libelous) will lessen its impact on the reputation of those allegedly impugned.
There are times when lawsuits have little to do with being compensated after one’s name has been sullied or seeking justice. Sometimes it is sending a message or damage control. In both instances shooting the messenger makes sense. Unfortunately, It was Alex Vergara who was the messenger.
I guess … this only highlights the risks one takes when one writes and publishes it.
that whole debate is patently ridiculous. you can only be called an “architect” if you’ve passed the board?
i think you’re right on the nose, juned. it’s just the UAP working to protect their vested interests. they seem to be more concerned about advancing their businesses and protecting their commissions than actually advancing the cause of architecture and improving our built environment.
You can only legally practice architecture if you’ve passed the board and acquire a license.
