Dinner and Conversation

Yesterday, I was fortunate enough to be invited to a dinner celebrating Noemi’s birthday at their new house. Aside from the gustatory pleasure that night one of the remarkable and enjoyable thing was the talk, the discussion, the conversation with Lauren, Jayvee,Abe, Gail, Marc,Sasha, Aileen, Rico, Marc and Sharms. I still remember the dinner parties at our house. They were fun and less costly. But, now it seems to be a thing of the past.

Maybe, the fast pace of life and urbanization of the populace has forced us to rely too much on fast food, take-out (take-away). Something similar happened in Sumeria, where at the end of the day’s work, one just had to go to and pass by the market to buy grilled fish or meat. And in Ancient China where it was easier to go to an inn or a restaurant order food than cooking it at home.

Although there were then and there are now cooks who could cook you up a maginificent meal right in your own kitchen. In Beijing, China a descendant of an an Imperial steward cooks up meals based on the notes of his ancestor. And they even had set meals and themes.

Still, aside from the meal the most important aspect of entertaining at home is the conversation. A nice, genteel but not stuffy way of enjoying the evening with friends:

Make new friends,
but keep the old.
One is silver,
the other is gold.

Thanks for the enjoyable evening that lasted till morning :)

It was great to talk to you again Juned! The conversation is always better when you’re around to share your insights, ideas, and trivia.

And I also wanna see the dinner party to make a comeback. At the very least, it’s a lot more affordable! :)
