Good buys and Good Bye Cubao X?

I have been receiving a couple of emails from one of the shops at Cubao X. At first. I thought only the Chunky Far Flung Gallery was closing down, hopefully moving to a new place nearby. Here is their email that was sent out last January 14, 2007.

HELLO EVERYONE! Happy New Year!

The Chunky Far Flung Gallery is finally closing its doors on the 23rd of January. So everything is on SALE! Up to 50% off!

So come visit us at the shop, say goodbye and get yourslf some toy cuteness before we go away!

Thanks to everyone, we enjoyed meeting all of you!

Tara and Margs

Chunky Far Flung Shop Hours
Tuesday to Sunday
1 to 9 p.m.

One can hope that they transfer to a new domicile. Its one of those shops that is an interesting place to stop by, something similar to emporium where you can and may discover new things. And most of the price are or were sold at a reasonable price. The occassional visit to the shops at Cubao X proved fruitful and fun.

Now an email I received a few days ago state that aside from the Chunky Far Flung Gallery a number of stores or galleries are also closing. Such a shame really.

FRIENDS!!!!!!!! As a going away celebration for all the shops closing, CUBAO X is holding a farewell bazaar this Saturday!

All those who are interested in selling your wares, art works, toys, clothes, books, food, plants, animals, you may join us!
Just bring your own mats and/or tables. Also there’s a 100 peso registration fee for the NEW LANDLORD!

BUT if youre not interested in selling anything, just come on by and let’s all have a good time at the bazaar!

WAHOO!!! Spread the word! it’s this Saturday, January 20, 3 to 9 pm!
We will be occupying either what used to be kuquada OR b spoke

BLAGUM!!!!!!!! SEE YOU THERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

One wonders why did Chunky Far Flung Gallery and the rests of the shops were closing … shop. A geometric increase in the rent? Or is to make way for the construction of new buildings along that area. I wonder if that wonderful Italian restaurant Bellinis would be among those that are packing up. I hope not. Who knows. One thing is clear though a number of shops are closing and the last time you will see them will be on January 20 at the Farewell Bazaar. Talk about good buys and good bye. One last look at Cubao X ?

The Tagalogs have a single word for missed opportunities and it seems much appropriate here and that word is Sayang.

not just sayang, but shameful. cubao x is rrreeeaally full of treasures - does it not house some of the most unique objects ever?

haay. if these shops just get enough support. like maybe free advertising of events or lowered rents. :(

Sailorboi, Dropped by Cubao X yesterday and found out a couple of things. First, not all stores are moving out. A number of shops on the two storey side of Cubao X are moving out. The rent is going up for that part of Cubao X. The Italian Restaurant Bellinis, Vintage Pop, Datelines, Black Soup, and A Different Gallery (Heritage) will be staying. Most of the vendors have been removed. They will be moving more galleries in within the year, even a Soho, New York-based gallery. Cubao X or Cubao Shoe Expo is owned by the Aquino family (Brother of Ninoy Aquino) and they will be redeveloping it. Oh well, lets wait see.

Sailorboi, The area of Cubao X is not owned by the Aranetas. It seems they are going to refurbish the place and put in new galleries. Let see.
