More about Lomography
Here is a clipcast about Lomography from ClicktheCity’s Clipcast Director’s Gallery. A reading of the articles on the web about Lomography can fall into the following: (i) It is a fad backed-up by very very good marketing, (ii) The lomo effect can be done using software like GIMP and Adobe photoshop. Lomography may have been driven by effective marketing but it does not take away the fact that cameras are intertesting devices. These cameras produce quite interesting photos when done properly - it is user dependent. And in a sense they are not different from other products that have used effective marketing like computers and mp3 players from Apple. As to the lomo effect being replicated with the use software - well there is a difference because lomo cameras use film and it has a degree of mystery - an anticipation of how a set of image, light, and chemical blend together to bring about a photo. Do not get me wrong I still like taking snapshots with my digital camera. They are different creatures. Digital photography and film photography are both beautiful creatures - somewhat different but still beautiful.
