The Cao Dai’s Holy See, called the Tay Ninh Holy See, is located in Tay Ninh, Vietnam

One of the interesting places in Vietnam is to Tay Ninh. And this is because in Tay Ninh you will get to visit the Holy See of the Cao Dai, Its more formal name in English being Great Religion of The Third Period of Revelation and Salvation.

I would not delve too much into the belief and faith of the Caodaiists because I am not one and nor I have don extensive studies. It would be an unfair for me to comment on their religion and belief. Better left to the scholars and believers.

The Eye
The Eye

What is interesting though are their ceremonies and symbolisms. It is an interesting mixture. The Eye represents God overlooking our world. And in Cao Dai belief there are 36 levels of Heaven and 72 planets that have intelligent life. Number 1 planet being closes to Heaven and the number 72 planet closest to Hell. For practical information our planet, Earth, is planet number 68.

People of the Cao Dai

Leaving the people of the Cao Dai. Lets meet one of their more well-known member.

Trình Minh The

One of the more prominent practitioner of Cao Dai is a gentleman called Trình Minh The - General Trình Minh The. The Kempetai trained Trinh broke from the Cao Militia and formed the Lien Minh dedicated to fight the French and the Viet Minh. He was given the title of General when his army was integrated into the South Vietnamese army. He and the Lien Minh had a Triumph of sorts. They held a march into Saigon. He was assasinated on May 3, 1955. One of the more powerful main in South Vietnam his death remains a mystery. Some suspect he was killed by the French while others believe he was killed by his ally - the South Vietnamese Government.

The Lien Minh were implicated in a series of terrorist bombings that occurred between 1951 and 1953. At the time the bombings were blamed on the Communists. Stories also hint that the General and the Lien Minh were also responsible for the assassination of the French General Chanson at Sadec in 1951.

The General though lives, in a fashion, in Graham Greene’s novel The Quiet American.

But in Cao Dai as in everthing in life location is everything. It is said that the lowliest citizen of Planet 67 would never exchange places with the mightiest king of Planet 68.

Now known as Ho Chi Mhin City. Mode of transport. For mass transport seems still to be the scooter for street food there seems to be wide use of bicycles. It still is a city where the moped and the scooter is king. There are even a few scooters that are customized and seemed to have been pimped.
