Viral Ideas: To Talk of Many Things

Posted in Blogging & Technology, Crosspost by juned on the December 14th, 2009

(originally posted at Notes from the Digital World)
The purpose of the webinar, for me at least, was to talk or more exact have a conversation with people. To borrow from Lewis Carroll - the webinar’s use is to talk:

The time has come,” the Walrus said,
To talk of many things:
Of shoes–and ships–and sealing-wax–
Of cabbages–and kings–
And why the sea is boiling hot–
And whether pigs have wings

The Walrus and The Carpenter
Lewis Carroll
(from Through the Looking-Glass and What Alice Found There, 1872)

For those who knows the Poem and Carroll’s story - the goal is to talk and consume oysters :)

It was after the Philippine Blog Awards Awards Dinner at Cagayan de Oro where the idea started and continued in the early morning as we - Janette, Cokskiblue or Coy and me - waited for our flight to Manila. Viral something that catches on. Viral something that infects. Viral something that happens on-line as well as off-line.

When you talk of Viral on-line you get a post, a picture, a sound or a movie posted that catches the attention of the netizen, It could be anything really from a video of prisoners dancing Michael Jackson on video to a micro blogging platform that captures nearly more than a thousand or even a million users.

On-line, viral often also means something interesting or of interest. And in that is the essence what the show is about. So far we tackled or talked about things from how to literally make a viral video to NoyNOY Aquino performance in term of search in the web.

The Webinar is live although recorded - in a sense different from a podcast.
The Webinar uses images, sound and sometimes even video - in a sense different from a videocast.

The format of the show is also entertaining or interesting n that it is in a sense a live digital broadcast of a presentation online. Being a presentation the listner can actually participate in the discussion by typing in a question or joining the talk through a microphone and a headset. The potential of interaction is great - Profora Media the company hosting the webinar offers not only the venue but also the expertise to set-up the seminar.

All you need is to sign-up once.

And the demands are not that great

All that is required to join the seminar and listen is to have an Internet connection and a computer.
All that is needed to participate in the seminar is a computer and headset/speakers
All that is needed to participate and add your voice to the seminar is to have a computer, headset/speaker, and a microphone.

And its free.

Perhaps that is why I became a part of the webinar - it is a way to share and talk about things viral or of interest So far it has been an interesting few weeks doing the webinar and we - Coy, Janette and myself Would be more than happy to see it grow. So yes please join us at Viral Ideas.

And its more than a webinar its conversation its talk.

Also, I would like to hear from you about - One, What you think is a viral ides and Two, What topic you would like to discuss.

Why I did not regret going to BlogFestAsia

Posted in Blogging & Technology by juned on the November 20th, 2009

The plane came in at 10:00. It was the Hong Kong Express flight UO73 from Manila. Passing through imigration and customs was fast. And the trip via Airport Express to Kowloon Station was fast as well It took some time though for the K5 bus to arrive that would take guests to the hotel – CityView. Checking in was not a big problem – there were no rooms until after 2 in the afternoon. And Tonyo Cruz was there and we went straight away, bag and all, to the Asian Blogfest.

Just made it in time for the panel discussion, I was part of the panel. The panel talked about … well updates of the different blog communities in and around Asia. In the panel there were bloggers from Malaysia, Cambodia, Taiwan, the Philippines (Blogie Robilo) and China. Probably China was the most interesting in that it was probably the one in China - the image of the building in the center of big man made crater where a building was to rise was a statement. This image:This photo: This snapshot seemed to me that it brought home a point that blogging is powerful but it is also a dangerous business.

There are things more powerful than a photo and that is listening to a first hand account of what happened.

And unfortunately you really get to realize this when you meet a fellow-blogger face-to-face and listen to their story. You get to learn about it on-line or even learn about if during a presentation but to nothing beats an actually tale and talk. It is only that you realize that life is not as tough here in the Philippines for bloggers, although we do have problems of our own - libel for one, over commercialization and other things that makes blogging interesting.

As I looked on and participated and became part of the first Blogfest Asia. I cannot but help to remember the early days of Iblog, the meet-up of bloggers, the Philippine Blog Awards and the Blog & Soul Movement. All this events introduced me to a lot of people I call friends now. I wonder will the same hold true for Blogfest Asia? I think so.

One of the blogger, Jerry Foo at the event said as we went on our seperate ways - You Are Not Alone … not original but apt.

This an interview Ching Chiao of BlogFestAsia1.

BlogFestAsia, the Philippine Blog Awards, activities with the Blog & Soul Movement. talk with friends and a number of other things have convinced me to compartmentalize and start a new blog at - Notes Blogging, Social Media, On-Line Media and On-Line Reputation Management.
