Driving my Nephew to School

This morning I took my nephew, Ernesto Emmanuel S. Roa III or Thirdee or Calamansi Nose, to school today. It seems onlt yesterday when came to this world … how time flies. This sort of reminds of Tevye from the Fiddler on the Roof singing Sunrise Sunset. When Thirdee was born his umbilical cord was wrapped around his neck. He was kept in an incubator for a month.

Life is complicated.

Thirdee liked to be carried around even when he learned to walk. Always saying “carry mo ako”. Fortunately, Thirdee was not heavy and it was easy to carry him. His brother Hansie or Panchito was heavy and it was more difficult to carry him, Hansie came a few years later. Heavier and bigger than Thirdee, the two together looked like Asterix and Obelisk.

Life is interesting.

Thirdee most of his time with his weird Uncle – me. So much so that he has learned to appreciate Vincent Price, Peter Lorrie and of course Futurama. Both of them have memorized the Pokedex – knowing what is Munchlax from a SnorLax. Sponge Bob from Yosemite Sam from Frodo.

Life is beautiful.

I enjoy my moments with my nephews. For me it is something more magical than swimming with the dolphins or seeing a whale shark. I have no doubt these are exciting things. But for me there is nothing more magical than time spent with loved ones.

They grow up so fast that you just might miss it.

Life is living and living is now.
