A Toast: Mabuhay 2014 and 2015?

A few hours and 2014 will leave us and 2015 will be taking its place. Some say it is the time of reflection and resolutions, probably, although one’s life is punctuated with reflection and resolutions. Although, I stray away from formal resolutions for as Mark Twain wrote:

Now is the accepted time to make your regular annual good resolutions. Next week you can begin paving hell with them as usual.Yesterday, everybody smoked his last cigar, took his last drink, and swore his last oath. To-day, we are a pious and exemplary community. Thirty days from now, we shall have cast our reformation to the winds and gone to cutting our ancient short comings considerably shorter than ever.We shall also reflect pleasantly upon how we did the same old thing last year about this time. However, go in, community. New Year’s is a harmless annual institution, of no particular use to anybody save as a scapegoat for promiscuous drunks, and friendly calls, and humbug resolutions, and we wish you to enjoy it with a looseness suited to the greatness of the occasion.

So instead let us toast 2014 and 2015 🙂

For the loved ones, FAMILY and Friends, we have lost through death, distance and whatever reasons that fate and fortune has provided in ample spades. Something from Neil Gaiman’s Sandman:

To absent friends, lost loves, old gods and the seasons of mists. And may each and everyone of us always give the devil his due. 🙂

For Friends and Family as steadfast as Sam Gamgee, Gandalf, Sancho Panza, and Screwtape, an old Scottish Toast would do I think:

Here’s To You as Good as You are
And Here’s to Me as Bad as I am
But as Good as You are as Bad as I am
I am as Good as you are as Bad as I am 🙂

And Lastly For the year 2014 and 2015”

It was not Annus Horribilis but it was not also Annus Mirabilis
Rather It was not a Happy but it was not also an Unhappy Year
There were ups and down as Life always is
As the Old Man receiving news said Good Luck or Bad Luck Who Knows
Anyway … Good Bye 2014 Hello 2015

Be Careful and Safe All 🙂
